THIS WAS A VERY RACIST RESORT! I had a horrible experience at RIU Palace Costa Mujeres and, as a Black guest, I would absolutely not recommend this resort. From the beginning, my friends and I felt extremely uncomfortable with the way we were treated. We were constantly stared at, and at one point, someone even touched my friend’s hair without her permission. The worst experience happened when I accidentally left my resort bracelet in my room. Despite explaining this and showing staff our room cards to prove that we were guests, I was kicked out of the lounge area while my friend went back to our room to get my bracelet for me. There was no attempt to handle the situation with basic courtesy or discretion. What made it even worse was that while my friend was returning with my bracelet, she was stopped approximately FOUR separate times by staff asking about her own bracelet before she could even get back to us. KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS ALMOST 12AM AT NIGHT!!! AND WE WERE A GROUP OF BLACK WOMEN! The entire experience left us feeling singled out, unwelcome and extremely uncomfortable as Black guests. I understand that resorts have policies around wristbands, but there is a respectful way to enforce those policies. The way we were repeatedly approached and treated felt excessive and discriminatory. We paid to stay at this resort and should have been treated like guests, not like we did not belong there. It completely ruined our experience. I will never return to RIU Palace Costa Mujeres and I highly DO NOT recommend this resort, particularly to Black travellers.

Riu Costa Mujeres—the place where I spent the best 10 days of vacation. Everything was perfect: the activities, the exceptional meals (both at the no-reservation buffet and the specialty restaurants), the magnificent beach, and the staff who were incredibly attentive to guests. The cleanliness—both in the hotel and the rooms—was truly outstanding (150% out of 100%). I recommend it to everyone for a wonderful vacation; it is a clean, safe place with great food. Bravo, Riu Palace!

The hotel is beautiful, rooms are great (especially Elite Ocean Front w/plunge pool!). The staff are all great-- but Jose and Cristo at the Elite Pool Bar are the BEST!!!

Party of 11!
Family of 11 here! We enjoyed this resort so much we did it again with our family! 4 children 7 adults. The best time ever! Everything was great! It was HOT though lol but it’s summer! My grandkids fell in love with Abel at the buffet dining room . The nicest man ever! So attentive! Good was great, staff very nice, clean clean grounds and the water park a big hit, as well as the neon party next door the kids had a blast! Thank you RIU you never disappoint us! Till next time!

RIU Palaces never seem to disappoint
Really nice hotel Arrival, as always with RIU flawless , key ready straight to our room , our cases turned up soon after. Room, standard RIU Palace room, if you've been in one they're all the same , thank god. Pools, standard sqaureish type pools that are only cold in the morning, no problem with beds , lots of shade , water park ok , adult only/bar pool looks like it could bleach your swimwear if you stay to long, which lots of adults do, but never a problem. Beach, very nice very shallow water , some seaweed, or whatever they call it, but never a problem, loads of beds some in shade of palm trees, sometimes. Food, buffet good, al a carte good, never had a problem with food at RIU hotels. Entertainment team, only bother you if you show interest, which is appreciated, evening entertainment is usually good, dont take it too seriously as its not Broadway or the West End but Mickey Jackson is worth seeing. White party is great but loud and sweaty, we lasted 20 minutes, but we tried. The complex is massive but it really is out of the way and nothing is close , not even a shop, but you have everything at your finger tips so no need to leave. Finally staff, never had a problem with any of the staff at any of the Rui's, even when my daughter was injured and taken to the hospital they were tripping over themselves to help.
